45+48 Wynnum Friday morning to Manly, then back to City.

There appears to be a large shift in the EMU use on the Cleveland line the last couple of weeks.  Prior to then it was common to see one or two units work all day, particularly on weekends, from the first to last service namely up to 5 return trips Cleveland to Shorncliffe at approx. 4 hours per round trip.  Just recently their use has dropped dramatically and this week seems to be only one unit per day sometimes, and then only on short runs to Manly and back in the peaks.  Or like 2 days ago there was a morning run to Manly and back, then it returned to Manly empty and was stored till mid afternoon then back empty to the City, for again an evening peak run to Manly and back..

As explained in the previous post 45+48 did run back to Manly empty about 0915 after their brief journey on the 0628 departure from Manly.  They stayed there till 1445 and then returned empty to the City, most likely to run another single trip to Manly in the evening peak.

@phil_48
This is also the theme on the Redcliffe line. There is one working per day, sometimes it doesn’t run or replaced by an NGR. This comes in on a peak run then parks at Kippa Ring till the afternoon peak then it runs back to the city.

Thanks Skyblue1.  As expected 45+48 arrived Manly 1730, then back to town empty.  There must have been another large reduction in available units a week or so back for these current reduced appearances.  They were quite plentiful before that on the Cleveland line.  More on death row I expect.

A second EMU just went express through Wynnum at 1748K.  Not quick enough for the numbers.  Should return from Cleveland in an hours time.  Will try to get the numbers then.

For the second weekend running no EMU's on the Cleveland line.  So guessing from my earlier comments their new role on the Cleveland line is just for short trips in the peaks.  The days of all day running could be over, except maybe as an occasional last minute replacement.

O well, looks like my late evening thoughts from yesterday have been blown away...…

Sunday morning - the second and third services on the Cleveland line from the City were both EMU's, meaning they should be used all day, with a potential of 4 return services Cleveland to Shorncliffe, the sets being 44+59, then 49+51 ( new panto )..

After working all day Sunday on the Cleveland line, both EMU sets stayed in Manly overnight. ( A third set, currently a 220, is stored as a spare ).   Now both sets look like working all day Monday, as 49+51 ( new panto for 51 ), and 44+59 have worked the first two inbound services.

Manly contributes 2 sets to Saturday, Sunday and Public Holiday workings, with Mayne adding another 6 sets, meaning 8 sets are used Cleveland/Shorncliffe line with 30 minute services.  One of the early Mayne sets so far is 201+209.

43+45 and 41+53 Wynnum early Friday morning peak.

41+53 then returned empty to Manly to be stored there till mid afternoon before heading back to town.  If the recent past is repeated, they will run a service to Manly in the afternoon peak before returning to town empty.  There is also a 220 set at Manly.

The 220 set might do this run instead, but will see what unfolds later today.
