Waratah B Set - Enter Service Date?

  sansjml Station Master

Hi,

Anybody know when and which B Set will enter service? And which line / station it will begin from?

I remember seeing B2 on Wednesday night at Sydenham station, and B3 today at Auburn depot.

Just curious. So tired of having to take an S Set every morning, with it half the time being cancelled due to mechanical issues.

S-sets move around daily, and don't simply return to start to form the same service every day.  So wherever the first B set debuts, it will be somewhere else the next day.

So for example, 18 run starting from Campbelltown in the morning (04:38 from Macarthur is its first revenue trip) is found at Eveleigh during the day, comes out of there at 16:57 and becomes a Leppington service, arriving there 18:42.  Forms an Up service departing 18:54, via Granville, around the City Circle, out to Lidcombe via Bankstown (21:21), and then it proceeds empty and ends up stabling at Macdonaldtown and forming 24 run the next day.

Of course, what they might also do is an STN to specifically move that set back to a preferred location each night, so that (for example) that 04:38 from Macarthur is permanently a B set.

So the sad answer to your question is, really, we don't know.

There's precedent for this - the Waratah A Sets did this.

I think when the B Sets enter service they will replace K Set rosters as the K Sets run all day and the K Sets will then replace S Set Rosters.

No signs of them yet out here in the southwest. Haven't seen them in the yards or on any service runs in the early morning. There's supposed too be a couple of sets already in service as of 2 weeks ago according to the last gov press release that was posted in the other thread.

The trains were not meant to be running yet. The SMH made dates up that were never in the government press release. Someone else made that mistake on a fb group.

Lucky enough to get ride on B2 this morning. A short run from Sydenham to Central. There was a liberal presence of technophobe type executives.
This would seem to be the first revenue run.
Interior much like A sets. The digital screens are now lcd. The colour looks like a "muddy green" It would be better and more fitting to be an "emerald green" to match the harbour.

By the looks of it, B2 is currently running run number 848 on weekdays and random runs on weekends.
Run 848 is apparently an extra service, starting from Granville at 0946 and running to:
> Liverpool
> City via Bankstown
> Campbelltown via Airport
> City via Airport
> Leppington via Strathfield
> Empty back to Granville

So how come B3 hasn't entered service, even though its been approved for passenger service?

Travelled on B2 today glenfield - city - glenfield. Great ride.

B2 is wearing a special livery promoting that it's the first of 24 new series 2 Waratah trains that is spread over the full length of the set.

No, it isn't. It's just wearing stickers.

From what I have been told, it hasn't been accepted.

lol.

Livery : a special design or colour scheme used on the vehicles, aircraft, or products of a particular company.

Regardless of stickers or paint it's wearing a corporate image that sets it apart from the 23 others that will follow it and will likely wear it for some time.

You are more than welcome to debate this futher with yourself s3_gunzel!

The document you linked states that it permits the revenue service of a set, not that the set has been accepted into revenue service. I've been reliably informed that it has not been accepted.

B3 received PA on 14/9/18 (the day you posted this). They won't always immediately go into service though.

A Sets have the following number of seats:
D: driving trailer car-101; N: motor car-118; T: trailer car-110

Do the B Sets have the same number of seats as the A Sets?

Why did B2 replaced a K set? Aren't they supposed to replace S sets?
