So far it seems the preserved motor cars might be (C3805, C3861?, C3912, C3986, C3765, C3001)C3861 will probably be preserved not because it was the oldest carriage in service but because it is the closest carriage that is left to C3858 (The first of the Series 2 Motor Cars).
One of C3814 or C3840 will probably also be preserved while the other provides parts for the other. C3862 will most likely be kept along with at least one other Goninan Car (likely a “Mk2 Goninan Car)
trailers (T4101, T4150, D4002, T4921-62 range, T4968 or T4983, T4050?
Don’t forget T4926. T4003 could also be kept.
this could even form an 8-car farewell set to run on a special day probably when the last 2 Waratah B sets have entered service. They wouldn’t run a special “farewell” run if they are still going to be running on the network until September because it wouldn’t be a farewell.
There will most likely be 5 Operational Carriages to be preserved by HETS (8 in a set and 2 spare):
Motor Cars: C3805, C3912, C3765, C3001
Trailer Cars: T4013, T4922, T4002, T4150
Spare: C3814/C3840* and T4926
*C3840 would not be available until the 2020s
3-5 Non Operation Carriages in Museums (Thirlmere, etc...):
C3861, C3862, C3986, C30XX, T4050, T4101, T4003, T4968, T4983
Once all S Sets have been withdrawn including the retained sets, they would start sending the cars other than the preserved HETs cars where they need to go and keep the rest at FMC temporarily before being transferred to Chullora Heritage Hub with the others (F1, U2, W3, etc...).
