I'd like to see some action on high speed rail not just an expensive study telling people what they want to hear.

I would like to see the V Set replacements, replaced with brand new(er) V sets, with thick comfortable forward facing vinyl seats, the same kind of plush carpet and sound deadening materials used in the existing V Sets, all made in Australian workshops using Australian steel.

The XPT/XPL replacements should also have forward facing chunky vinyl seats (like the V sets). The loco and carriages should be designed in Australia from the ground up, be manufactured in Australia, using Australian Steel.

Vote 1:    V Set Party.

Should get back in easily...?

People will vote on local issues. I am a swing voter and we have had a very active MP here in my electorate who has campaigned against the backward plastic trains coming from Korea to replace the v sets.  There are also other local issues that won't see a coalition victory any time soon. Education and health are big issues.

Even though the opposition is in disarray, look at their recent electoral performance in Wagga. All this before anyone batters an eyelid at the Caesar politics in Canberra.

No amount of pork barreling and sandbagging in Sydney will turn around voter opinions on local issues. This is why Labor is still governing in Vic.

Gladys should move her ministers to Dubbo for a week. She needs to build a wall around Sydney. Sydney is full. The rest of the state is in need of attention.

keep telling yourself that.

We have a choice between a liberal party that has been building new infrastrucutre that has been desperately needed with only a late running light rail project and stadiums that actually need to be rebuilt causing a headache or a party that has just had a change of leader due to sexually harrasing a female journalist and still has no policies other then to oppose anything the liberal party suggests. Need we remind people how bad this state was under labor for 16 years.

The federal libs on the other hand are dead men walking. They should already be dead and dr phelps really is not doing her job. She should have enforced an immediate election after her victory by siding with labor to get that mess over with.

The study isn't in to high speed rail but where the new routes can be built. It is initially about getting rid of pieces of track like the picton loop.

except everything you have said is wrong. What local issues are they fighting against. While I would have liked the trains to be made in Newcastle as well the chinese waratahs didn't affect her. Education and health are one of the big win areas. Maybe you have forgotten how bad things were when labor was in charge in this area. This government has built brand new hospitals and schools  and have been spending record amounts in both these areas. Some morons are complaining about $2-3 billion on the new stadiums when this government is spending over $300 billion already on schools and health.

The problem the nsw libs have is a perception put out there by the labor party that nothing is being done when in fact a whole stack is actually being done and not just for Sydney either. What Gladys hish speed announcement is really about is building new straighter alignments and electrifying further out in to the country.
  michaelgm Deputy Commissioner

Will all depend on the timing of the federal election.
If state election in March is before the other, and likely will be, NSW punters will still have baseball bats at the ready. Libs will most likely retain power, albeit with a reduced majority.
Opposition leader Michael Daily, seems a reasonable character.
I do however object to Gladys's taxpayer funded adds appearing recently.

Propaganda, defamation, revenge smeg law by her own Government, poor control over loose cannon cops, who the hell ever heard of 'special law'? No one I ever met.
Spy camera's in innocent people's homes, unconvicted free Aussie's.
Metro trains not compatible with the states railway, spent billions on Sydney while regional towns got squat.
The new XPT are still not here, Rail Corp replaced by Sydney trains, twenty million for new logo and the same trains, drivers, signallers and support staff went worse.
The Newcastle line closed for years and still no poxy tram.
Sad she will survive an election.
Labor needs a new leader to take her on.

I agree with all you have said but want to add that the replacement of the Sydney football stadiums, the relocation of the Powerhouse Museum and the rebuilding of the Sydney Entertainment Centre are all more money wasted.
These assets already exist and could have continued to function for many more years whilst new infrastructure should have been budgeted for instead.

Yes a few issues

Metro trains designed to the job more efficiently than the current technology thus reducing the cost of providing Sydney with PT, currently one of the more expensive cities in the world if you ignore the rest of Australia which is even worse, the fact they were driverless meant they were never going to be compatible.

What do you mean, new XPT STILL NOT HERE? At any time in the last 20 years have the XPT replacements ever been proposed to be before 2020? Prior to LNP govt the projection in this forum was that bus will replace. The govt announced a time frame, far more favorable than anyone predicted and included the XPL fleet as well much to the surprise of many. They have not yet breeched that timetable.

Newcastle line was always going to close regardless of the govt at the time. ALP was more focused on doing it and the replacement was a bus. The tram is on track and under testing now.

The problem with ALP supporters in NSW is they still cannot come to terms with the fact the last 8 years of LNP govt has done more for rail than not just previous 11 years of ALP, but the previous 50 years in NSW. However as these things take time much of the work is still a work in progress with a number of major milstones to be completed in 2019 such as the SE tram, Metro Phase 1, Newcastle Tram and I think 2020-2021 the new rollingstock for interurban commuters and regional NSW rollingstock.

Not a perfect govt by any means, however I would prefer they govt they introduced these projects is still in power to be around for the grand opening. I suspect LNP will get back in for one more term.

Metro trains not being compatible is a good thing and not a bad thing. Sydney's rail system is constrained because it is so interlinked. A problem on the main trunk line can bring down 75% of the whole network. If Sydney trains is broken down at least the metro will still be able to operate. The new metros will also allow some new flexibility for the Sydney trains network with stress relief at places like chatswood, epping and sydenham.

The XPT and Xplorer replacement is next in line for new rolling stock. The amount of rolling stock for this new order is going to be at least twice the amount of what is currently operating in the xpt, xplorer and endeavour fleet. They are finally also talking about straightening lines to reduce travel time with a look towards a possible hst future. They will have a servicing facility at Dubbo and probably also Goulburn.

How much more do train drivers want. Most of them are on $80-$100k from what I understand and the only real issue seems to be that they aren't getting paid the same as freight operator drivers and metro drivers in Melbourne. The only area you are struggling in is the extra overtime due to your companions who get trained by sydney trains and then take a more lucrative offer somewhere else leaving the current drivers struggling to cope with the extra hours.

Newcastle light rail is testing and will be open soon. Maybe some of you don't like the decisions but atleast they made the decisions and went through with the decisions. NSW Labor is still on the nose in this state and the only way they will win is if stupid people take the axe to the wrong liberals.

Im not saying crews deserve more money, Im saying Rail Corp managers got axed for Corporate managers and the wheels fell off.
Rebadging Rail Corp was a waste off money, rebadging Country Link to NSW Trains was against corporate advertising, the Premier is a person only there because the previous one quit.

For those saying that it is a disgrace that the libs don't buy rolling stock in Australia then where were you when labor ordered the waratahs from china instead of building them here?

To be fair they probably didn't like it then either, but maybe not as vocal due to political loyalty.

Yes I too believe Australia should be building the bulk of our EMU and DMU rolling stock and if we look last 40-50 years of orders to most states, ironically the Australian stuff generally seems to have had less issues. Look at the stuff from Maryborough, 50 years of EMU's, not one set retired early apart from collision damage.

The XPT replacements however are probably too small a production run to get the economics.
