It is not in regular use, but occasional moves such as this are still allowed.

The tour has the train stopped overnights, not exactly the original purpose of sleeping cars.

Its something that has gone on for many years, moreso with tour trains in the 60's, some of those trains had standard sitting cars, such as FS/BS and 2 people to a compartment and that's where they slept o/night, usually laid out along the seats.  Some of those tours also had accommodation in stationary carriages for o/night stays.

Tour trains are still quite popular and will continue to be so, especially with the long trips.

....and?

My thought would be to have the train traveling for at least one night, which is the usual arrangement of 707 operations, as a reenactment of overnight train travel.

Makes me think about other lines in NSW who have very infrequent passenger services.

Not sure I see much value in heritage sleepers, paying alot of money to sleep over the rails you usually expect to see. You can get back to Sydney from anywhere in NSW by rail within 14h.

If you're on a long tour, and expect to see all of the rails, what could be more sensible than stopping overnight? And when you stop this way, there's no dragging of bags to motels and back; everything needed is on the train - showers, beds, breakfast. Makes sense to me.
