NSW - Cityrail Where Is It? - CRYPTIC VERSION

  maybenever Deputy Commissioner

I still don't really understand the difference between this and the the other Where is it?  Is it just that it is Sydney area only (thus excluding Chris Nelson's wonderful historical pics?)  But give me a chance and I'll come up with the pics!
"Warks"

I think this is where we post the out-of-focus, obscure pics that wouldn't be acceptable in the main Where is it?   Shocked But I don't take out-of-focus shots Laughing

Actually, the photos we've had so far haven't exactly been what I had in mind when I got the idea for this thread.

Cryptic doesn't necessarily mean hard. Simply, instead of a straightforward photo of a piece of railway (like in the other thread), this one is where you have a bit of fun.  The shots can be fuzzy and out of focus if that's part of the deal, but  don't think of this thread as being for the other thread's cast-offs.  As said earlier, you can cheat, photoshop, drop Godzilla into the middle of itwhatever. Just remember that the harder you make the photo itself, the more well-known the location should be. Just have fun with it. Think outside the square.

I'll throw in a pic or two to give an illustration of what I mean. These are NOT in this thread officially (but you can have a guess if you want to). It's Sandown's turn to post the next one.

Truth be told, I had the idea for this thread because the other one scares me! Very Happy  Well that is to say, I find it extremely difficult generally, and am always in awe of my fellow gunzels who just wander in casually and say, "Oh yes, that's the refuge siding at Upper Bongawallacabangawanga, and I'd say this photo was taken between 1995 and 1998."

I'd say the top one was Flemington, and the bottom one Hornsby (but it could be flemington too).
TheLoadedDog The Ghost of George Stephenson

Top one is on the Main South looking to the north. Bottom one is hard to  give a clue for because I would only expect a general answer anyway (to within a few km). Just bear in mind that it is in negative, and there might be a clue or two in the pic that'll leap out at you.

If nobody get's 'em sharpish, I'll just give the answers.. As I said, these were just examples, and Sandown currently has the floor.

That would make the bottom one in tunnel.  Can't see evidence of bricks, so I'd say on the ESR.

Top one, Glenfield?
TheLoadedDog The Ghost of George Stephenson

Top one is indeed Glenfield (thought that clue was a bit of a cracker. Very Happy)

The bottom one is in a tunnel. The clue I was refering to  is the large dark smudge, which in positive, becomes a rather bright light. It is clearly situated quite low on the tunnel wall, and its size suggests it's not right up close, so it must be a dual track tunnel, making the answer: Airport Line!

I shall pass on my go, since I haven't any photos I think suit your criteria.
That's not to say I can't find a blurred, out of focus shot, I'd just like to see some more of what TheLoadedDog™ had in mind before I post.
TheLoadedDog The Ghost of George Stephenson

Okay then, but this thread isn't so much about rules as having fun.

Just odd crap basically....   Very Happy

Hang on, I'll see if I can dig summat up...

Southern Line, again.

That your place, TLD™?  Just down from Liverpool?
TheLoadedDog The Ghost of George Stephenson

This boyo is good. Very Happy  Yup, betwixt L'pool and Casula stations, west side.

It's a few hundred metres the Casula side of my place.

NOTE TO SELF: Take some shots on more than one Liverpool - Green Square ticket. Very Happy

Over to you, SOAG.

First to post a photo gets my turn.
TheLoadedDog The Ghost of George Stephenson

I'm starting to realise the initial problem with this thread. It's that people don't have the type of photo required  just lying about.  I'm going to take some shots tomorrow. I have a bit of time spare in the morning, and might shout myself a daytripper and do Liverpool - St Peters via Artarmon,  West Ryde, and Bondi Junction. Or something. Very Happy

Promise no more Southern Line shots. Or do I?  Bwahahahaha!  Twisted Evil

I was going to put up another, but it wopuld be too difficult - I'll put it up for interest when someone gets this

Cool photo. The positioning of those lights is weirding me out a bit, but  I'm going to take a stab at:

I think redfern as well, but just for a stab

Sorry, not Redfern or Ashfield.

Talking about lights 'weirding' people out, I had to go to Rookwood Cemetary today to have some ashes intered, so I was searching on the net to find what I could out about the old Rookwood station.  I came across the following:

Enjoy.  Is anyone interested in any of the tours?  Might be fun!

Hornsby  Question
"Blackadder"

Hornsby it is.

(You still haven't answered what it is but that us alright!)

From the most recent double headed 38s, this is 3830 pulling into Hornsby on the 200 Years of steam, taken from the carpark.

I was going to post this:

...but then decided that it was cruel and all but impossible.

The Mortuary Station is truly worth visiting, it's one of the most unusual railway structures you'll ever see, and a beautiful building. As for "paranomal" phenomena.... Rolling Eyes .... what a load of codswallop!

I did backshift there for about six months, and saw and heard NOTHING even remotely spooky.

Rookwood is also worth visiting, as it has many graves and memorials of great significance to the history of the NSWGR, and railways generally.

Turns out my dodgy photo has been thrown out... no photo from me sorry.
