I did touch off at South Geelong. But thanks for your post, because I did a check on my Myki history and it did say something about resetting my defaut fare. Maybe criss crossing on the city loop without passing a touch on/off point messed things up.
For example - Melbourne Central - you touch on and travel to Southern Cross and then get train at Southern Cross to South Geelong with out leaving the paid area.
It should be a Zone 1 to 4 fare off-peak fare- have you ring or email PTV, ask them a refund yet?
The system should work out : Melbourne Central or any other city loop station is Zone 1 and South Geelong is Zone 4 :

Melbourne to Lara : $3.58
Lara to South Geelong : $2.10
$5.68
Note all fares are the current 2014 fares.
