Interesting to see one of my photos illustrating the article, presumably sourced from flickr. It seems to be from sbs as well as 2gb.
This was taken from a train from the Kazakh border and is the line to Urumqi. A few weeks before the trip, there was a high speed crash on a viaduct and a train came off. They just stopped all HS rail construction so sections like the one in the picture were just left and beams in transit were just parked. It was amazing to see such a massive site deserted. This was over a decade ago.
