On 22 December 1989, a two-car Bluebird railcar set climbs away from Lynton with an evening Adelaide to Mt Gambier service.
At the time Mt Gambier services still boasted on train refreshments, although these were withdrawn a few months later in March 1990. By April, Bluebird reliability was so poor that road coach replacements were a frequent occurrence and the service was gradually allowed to fizzle out, with the last recorded Bluebird working being in August 1990.
