A set of 48 class pics showing the catalytic converter applied to the exhaust. This was to enable diesel loco operation on the City (Sydney) underground network as required for maintenance work, usually of a weekend or at night. The converter apparently removed the 'nasties' from the exhaust but not the ALCo haze of efficiency (smoke).
