1995 was a time of great change for the Australian rail industry and this resulted in large numbers of boxcars being made redundant by National Rail/Australian National. Many were stored on the closed broad gauge branch between Kapunda and Eudunda in the Mid North of South Australia.
An all ALCo combination including the uniquely liveried 'Explorer' loco smokes it up heading for Kapunda with another rake destined for storage. Thankfully most of the boxcars would eventually see further use with private operator SCT on their Melbourne to Perth run.
