During April 2000 two NSWGR 38 class locomotives, 3801 and 3830, made a visit to Melbourne and the standard gauge western Victoria. With them they took the former Southern Aurora consist (the silver cars you can see in the photo above), and a pair of NSWRTM diesel locomotives for backup.
Here the train is seen arriving at Stawell in the early evening light.
