At one point, 422 Class locomotives were a common sight at Sydney Terminal, working interstate and regional passenger trains to and from Sydney. With all twenty having passed to freight operators during privatization, it is now much more uncommon to see one arrive into Sydney Terminal. This was not the case when FL22 (42220) and 44208 worked a CFCL Australia charter train into Sydney Terminal.
Thanks to CFCL Australia, sick children and their families were given a day out at Thirlmere including a visit from Santa and a few early Christmas presents. The outbound trip was hauled by heritage steam locomotive 3642, whilst CFCL Australia locomotives FL220 and 44208 were used for the return journey.
