    80 class front end comparisons (with a class 46 electric) seen around the turntable at Lithgow, New South Wales on 5 October 1994.

    50 of the ALCo-powered 80 class were delivered to the State Rail Authority of NSW commencing in 1978. Withdrawals started in the late 1990s, but a handful remain in service (Jan 2016) with private operators Pacific National, QUBE and Greentrains.
