Previous description | A rebuild of the Victorian Railways B class locomotive, eleven B class locomotives were sent to the Clyde Engineering factory in Rosewater, South Australia for a rebuild. While the carbody was retained, new engines, traction motors and electrical equipment was installed. Used perdominantly by V/Line for passenger trains, the introduction of Sprinter and VLocity railmotors in the 1990s and 2000s saw less of a need for them on passenger workings; subsequently seven were transferred to Freight Australia. Of note is A85; which during tests of a new bogie set, exceeded 160km/h between Glenorchy and Lubeck. |
