Rebuilt by Freightcorp for push-pull operation on "PortLink" shuttles (hence the "PL" classification) between Port Botany and the various container yards around western Sydney. Shortly after the class passed into Pacific National ownership, the company decided not to pursue the PortLink contracts, and instead relocated the majority of the class to Newcastle to work on the lightly laid South Maitland Railway line to Pelton. PL1 was transferred to Adelaide to shunt the GSR Passenger Terminal at Keswick.
