The federal Member for Mallee has urged authorities in Horsham to address concerns raised over the town's closed freight terminal.
The site in Mill Street was closed earlier this year, after the opening of the Wimmera Intermodal Freight Hub at Dooen.
However, there have been reports a freight company has expressed interest in using the terminal.
Nationals' MP John Forrest says he believes residents would be very disappointed if the site was to reopen.
"The point I make is, what was the point in shifting it if the existing facility would continue in operation? It doesn't make sense to me," he said.
"It doesn't make sense to me and I'm expecting all those involved, the Australian Rail Track Corporation, the proposed freight operator, V/Line and everyone else, including the Horsham Rural City Council, to come up with a solution here."
