Former PRime Minister Gough Whitlam urged Albury-Wodonga people last night to launch a national campaign to electrify the railway lines from Melbourne to Sydney and Brisbane.
t should have been done almost 30 years ago after the Whitlam Government commissioned a report into rail transport. Although the Fraser government liked the idea of a 25,000 volt AC electrified long distance railway system, the Liberal government in Victoria and the Labor government in NSW rejected it.
