A new manganese mine north of Tennant Creek is expected to inject about $70 million a year into the Northern Territory economy.
The Bootu Creek mine has been approved to begin extracting ore and will use the Alice Springs to Darwin railway to transport about 600,000 tonnes of manganese to Darwin and then on to China.
The project is expected to generate about 80 jobs.
