Ansaldo STS has awarded Siemens a contract to electrify Lima metro Line 2 and the first phase of Line 4.
Siemens is to install six 60 kV/20 kV feeder stations, two 20 kV cable distribution rings, 37 station supplies and 21 1·5 kV DC rectifier substations, as well as the SCADA system. It will supply its Series 8DN8 gas-insulated switchgear.
The 27 km Line 2 will connect Ate in the east with Callao in the west with 27 stations. An 8 km branch to Jorge Chávez International Airport will form the first phase of Line 4. Passenger service is due to start in 2017, with the rest of Line 4 to be built by 2021. Around 80% of the energy required for operation on the two lines is to be provided by hydroelectric power.
Ansaldo STS has a 15% share in the Nuevo Metro de Lima consortium, which was awarded the US$9bn Line 2 concession in March 2014. It has a US$710m share of the contract and is responsible for the supply of electro-mechanical systems, including CBTC for unattended automatic train operation, power supplies, telecoms, platform screen doors, depot equipment, control centres, automatic fare collection and SCADA. It will also operate and maintain both lines for 30 years.
