The Seymour Railway Heritage Railway invites you to celebrate 50 years of service of the Blue and Gold X31 diesel locomotive with a day tour to the beautiful town of Traralgon via Southern Cross.
X31 was built by Clyde Engineering in Granville in 1966. The X entered service mainly servicing the North East line for the Victorian Railways. Prior to making it's home with Seymour Railway Heritage Centre, X31 was owned by Pacific National and prior the Victorian Railways/V/line.
Celebrate X31's Birthday with one of these fantastic tour options:
Morwell – This 2 and a half hour Power tour comprises a guided 70 km circuit of mines, power stations, historic sites, pilot plants, an overview lookout and a Powerworks museum visit with refreshments. The tours include full commentary with diagrammatic displays.
Walhalla – Be guided through one of Victoria’s great gold mines, The Walhalla Long tunnel mine. A Mine Guide who is familiar with the Mine’s history and the history of Walhalla will take you on an informative as well as entertaining tour. Then take a ride on the Walhalla Goldfields Railway, an unforgettable journey offering wonderful views of Stringers Creek as it meanders down the gorge to the Thomson River across eight trestle bridges and along a narrow shelf cut into the mountain side.
Or, whilst in Traralgon, visit The Farmers' Market which is a favourite destination for everyone who loves great fresh fruit and vegetables, and beautifully crafted products.
Your trip will be in the warm comfort of the Blue Spirit of Progress carriages. The Spirit of Progress was the first air conditioned steel train in the Southern Hemisphere and operated between Melbourne and Albury from 1937 to the early 1960’s. This historic train will offer a Dining car where travellers can relax and sit down for light refreshments, and the Parlor car which has a fully licensed bar.
Your train will travel from Seymour at 7.30am stopping to pick up travellers at Broadford, Kilmore East, Wallan, Broadmeadows, Southern Cross, Flinders Street, Caulfield, Dandenong and Morwell before arriving at Traralgon Railway Station.
