Sydney commuters have been warned to remain vigilant when using their mobile phones around public transport as the number of 'slips, trips and falls' skyrocket.
The term 'phone zombies' has been coined to describe the 'modern phenomenon' of commuters staring at their screens and ignoring their immediate surroundings.
Sydney Trains information manager Howard Collins said people have been 'seriously injured' from falling down escalators, slipping between trains and tripping down the stairs, 7News reported.

ACT Police warned locals to think about the 'real-world risks' while walking the streets and staring at their phone screens.
'Don't ever Pokemon Go and drive, don't distract your drivers when hunting for Pokemon, especially when you're a passenger, stay alert at all times,' a statement from police said.
