DOUBLE the noise has not meant double the soundproofing on the rail line duplication leaving Coomera and Helensvale residents dreading the project’s completion.
Those backing on the rail line are already struggling to cope with the noise, with trains starting to thunder down the track about 4.30am every day.
Fears that noise will double with an additional track has lead to more than 200 people signing a petition to have increased soundproofing place alongside the rail line.
Helensvale man Paul Wenham, who organised the petition, said as more and more trains went past his place, the noise was getting worse.

In the five years since Mr Wenham moved into his home, which backs onto the current sound barrier, he said trains had gone from two an hour to four or five an hour at peak times.
The driving instructor said on some occasions when trains went past it was impossible to hold a conversation in his backyard but that trains which were either slower or newer were quieter.
Mr Wenham said he spoke with Queensland Rail a number of times but found their response frustrating.
“They are proposing to put a 1.8m barrier up there and that’s not going to cut it,” he said.
Mr Wenham said he felt the barrier was not going to be high enough to effectively block the noise coming from the trains.
He said he would like to see something higher, similar to the barriers used along the M1.
“I know it’s not going to alleviate the problem completely but it will help reduce the noise,” he said.
Residents are concerned the light rail extension to Helensvale will double noise levels.Mr Wenham said he would have liked more community consultation before a decision was made and said the only attempt he was aware of was an information day at a shopping centre a few years ago.
He said he was unable to attend as he was working.
The petition is expected to be presented to parliament when it resumes later this month.
A Queensland Rail spokeswoman said the $163 million duplication project included the building of eight rail bridges to help provide more rail services between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
“We are aware that those living near the rail corridor can be exposed to varying levels of rail noise and we strive to manage the noise to ensure it has as little impact on our neighbours as possible,” she said.
“Queensland Rail has conducted noise monitoring of the existing line, as well as modelling to predict the noise increase we can expect upon completion of the duplication project.
“Existing timber barriers will be replaced with concrete barriers, which are more durable and reduce noise more effectively over a longer period of time.”
These barriers may not be the final measure to reduce noise.
