The Victorian Government committed $2 million towards the Bendigo Metro Rail project. The project aimed to deliver a commuter train service for Bendigo, with an increased number of services running from Epsom, Eaglehawk and Kangaroo Flat to Bendigo.
On Friday 11 December 2015, the Minister for Public Transport released a response to taskforce recommendations and announced the first stage of the Bendigo Metro Rail project.
A Community Consultative Taskforce was established to oversee consultation and prepare recommendations for consideration by the Minister for Public Transport.
Extensive consultation was undertaken within the community as well as input from the City of Greater Bendigo, Bendigo Hospital, Bendigo Bank, La Trobe University Bendigo Campus and representatives from the school community.
Over 600 community submissions helped to inform the development of the taskforce recommendations which were delivered to the Minister for Public Transport on 7 August 2015.
The project taskforce put forward 14 recommendations to be delivered over three stages.
The full list of taskforce recommendations can be found in the Bendigo Metro Rail recommendation report (PDF 452.79 KB) or the Summary of recommendations fact sheet. (PDF 47.17 KB)
