Sydney's train network was thrown into chaos after a death on the track left peak hour commuters stranded for up to 50 minutes.
Police said a person deliberately put themselves in the path of the train at Wahroonga station and was killed in the early hours of Monday morning.
Services along the northern line between Hornsby and Gordon stations were shut down for about two hours, only beginning again soon before 8am.
Commuters took to social media in confusion, with a few in Wahroonga saying they saw dozens of emergency services in attendance
Thousands of passengers had to be re-routed through Ryde, Macquarie Park and even Strathfield to reach the CBD and other part of Sydney.
Sydney Trains advised that even though services were running again by 8am, passengers would still need to leave extra time.
Some said it took them up to 50 minutes longer than usual to reach the CBD after being redirected back through Hornsby.

'Wahroonga train station closed this morning. Police, fire and ambos everywhere,' one wrote on Facebook.
The problems were made worse by urgent signal equipment repairs at North Ryde.
