The Railway Protection Force in Asansol division of Eastern Railway has decided to impose a fine of Rs 500 on any person found to be taking selfie on tracks or standing near the door of a train's compartment.
The RPF has also launched a campaign in areas under the Asansol division, putting up banners that say: "Do not take selfie on railway tracks or with running train...it may be your last picture."
RPF sources said the campaign was to make people aware of the danger of taking selfies on smart phones standing on tracks or with a running train in the backdrop
"Although there has been no fatal incident while taking a selfie in my jurisdiction, we want to take precautionary measures. We will impose a fine of Rs 500 on those who will be found taking selfies standing on tracks or near the doors of running trains," said Achyutanand Jha, the senior deputy commandant of RPF's Asansol division.
