Someone has parked a car on the railway line at the level crossing at Ascot Vale road stopping trains into the racecourse and causing massive delays on the transport system.
The car has been driven down the line and left abandoned. The police are not sure what to do right now.
Appears the protest is about Manus Island and the treatment of Refugees on the island choosing Melbourne's and arguably Australia's International Sporting event as the stage for the protests inconveniencing thousands and thousands of racegoers. Subsequently several people climbed a crane at or near the racecourse displaying banners about alleged mistreatment.
Passengers on-board trains between Southern Cross and Flemington Racecourse provided accounts of spending over 90 minutes stranded on trains on the line. Services on the Craigieburn Line were also affected as trains stranded blocked the main line north from Melbourne.
There have been no reports of V/Line services being affected and trains resumed around 15:30.
