MORE than 500 kilometres of rail tracks running through the Hunter will shut down throughout next week.
Buses will replace some commuter trains between November 20 and 24 for the final work scheduled in the Hunter this year.
The Australian Rail Track Corporation has scheduled a major maintenance spree on its lines between 6.30am Monday and 6.30am Friday involving more than 1000 staff and contractors.
Group executive of the Hunter Valley network Jonathan Vandervoort said there would be two stages of works.
“Stage one is from Kooragang to Muswellbrook north,” he said.
“Stage two is from Muswellbrook to Narrabri.”
It is the last major maintenance work on the network this year, with the next round scheduled for February.
Passenger service customers are advised to monitor nswtrainlink.info and sydneytrains.info throughout the closures for any impacts on commuter rail services.
