The NSW Government has asked for a major review of public transport fares in Sydney and surrounding areas.
The pricing regulator will look at introducing mode-specific fares for light rail and metro, extending off-peak fares which currently only apply to trains and only applying peak fares in locations where overcrowding is an issue.
The revamp may also see discounts introduced for contactless payments such as bank cards or mobile devices where there is currently no discount.
Shenhua mine water useNew research has suggested the company behind a controversial mine in the state's north-west "grossly underestimated" the project's impact on water resources.
Part of Chinese company Shenhua's mining licence for the ridge lands of the Liverpool Plains was renewed in 2017.
Research by UNSW's Water Resource Laboratory indicated the water modelling presented in Shenhua's environmental impact statement misrepresented the groundwater impacts and under-predicted the rate and extent of drawdown during times of drought.
The report recommended the project be reassessed, taking into account the revised data and modelling information.
