DB Regio selected for Rhein-Neckar operating contract
Alstom has secured a contract to deliver eight Coradia Lint regional trains to Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn (ODEG), a passenger rail operator in Germany.
The French rolling stock manufacturer will build these trains at its Salzgitter facility in Lower Saxony, Germany. The total value of the contract is around €45m.
These Coradia Lint diesel multiple-unit vehicles are environmentally friendly and complies with Stage 5 of European emission standards.
Each of the trains are powered by three 400kW engines and an engine management system.
This engine management system can turn off engines as required, including for ecological and economic reasons.
Capable of operating at a maximum speed of 140km/h, the two-part trains will have a network-tailored boarding height and four doors on each side of the vehicle with automatic boarding aids.
The Coradia Lint regional trains will also feature WLAN, increased seat spacing, seat sockets, luggage racks, tables between face-to-face seats and large real-time information display systems for better passenger experience.
Overall, the trains feature 140 seats, along with separate spaces to accommodate 12 bicycles or six pushchairs.
Alstom Germany and Austria managing director Jörg Nikutta said: “Parallel to the development of new emission-free technologies, we at Alstom are also consistently developing the proven diesel technology in an environmentally friendly manner.
“The Coradia Lint regional trains for ODEG comply with the EU Stage 5 emissions standard. This makes them the most environmentally friendly diesel trains in the world.”
The trains are scheduled to be delivered in the second half of 2022, following which they will operate on the Netz-Elbe-Spree.
Recently, Alstom won another Coradia Lint regional train delivery contract in Germany. This €80m order involves the delivery of 18 trains to Landesanstalt Schienenfahrzeuge Baden-Württemberg (SFBW).
