Inland rail a trifecta for Toowoomba region: mayor
Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson is to make a whistle-stop visit to the the mid north coast region of New South Wales next week after the Commonwealth makes a major pre-election announcement on road and rail infrastructure.
The Federal Government will unveil its Auslink program on Monday, which is expected to include a funding boost for an important road project in each state.
Mr Anderson will be in Coffs Harbour on Tuesday and Wednesday to hold a press conference beside the Pacific Highway.
Federal Trade Minister and the Member for Lyne, Mark Vaile, says the time is right for a significant investment in the country's infrastructure.
"It certainly is a significant commitment by the Federal Government into the infrastructure across Australia," he said.
"In terms of transport it is crucial to our economy both domestic and the way we engage and compete internationally.
"So we've reached a stage in the history of this country where we are able to afford to invest significant amounts of money in both road and rail infrastructure for the future of the nation and we can do it at a time when we don't have to borrow the money, and so we look forward to the Deputy Prime Minister's announcement next week."
