Inland rail a trifecta for Toowoomba region: mayor
The Federal Member for the northern New South Wales seat of Richmond says he hopes a multi-billion dollar project to improve the nation's road and rail system will convince the NSW Government it should restore the Casino to Murwillumbah rail link.
Larry Anthony was commenting on the AusLink package unveiled by the Federal Government yesterday.
He says he hopes Canberra's initiative will prompt the Carr Government to reconsider the future of the northern NSW rail line.
"I am hopeful, but the way they have been treating the north coast as second class citizens I can't be that optimistic," he said.
"Our vision is to get trucks off the road onto rail.
"The freight task will double over the next 10 years so it's even more important that we improve our roads but also improve rail to get freight off road onto rail."
