Gheringhap Sightings w/e 13/6/2015
Victoria, 3-10 to 8-10-2004
There were 122 sightings for this week, which are five sightings more than
last week. Making a total of 4970 sightings for this year to date.
On day 301, last year we had seen 4211 sightings.
On the B/G there were 20 sightings for the week, which was one sighting less
than last week. We have seen 9140 running via Gheringhap on every week day.
We saw 15 grain trains this week, which was one less than last week. There
were six up grain trains and nine down empty grain trains, the 15 grain
trains included 14 XR locos, the other grain train included G+A71. There was
no big lash up's this week, just one train with three locos,
G525+S301(FA)+H5 on Thursday's 9140, and two locos on all the others
On the S/G the use of AN and DL class locos were more even this week, with
14 DL class sightings and 12 AN class sightings. We had ten sightings of XRB
class slave units, all of them on the Patrick's trains. We had five BL class
sightings and four sightings of XR555(PN), two of the sightings were on the
only two S/G grain trains for the week and the other two sightings were on
9791 & 92. V544 was sighted twice, it came in on Monday's up SCT, G542+V544
and was seen leading on the down 9791 with 8160 on Wednesday. The only GL
sighting for the week was on Thursday's down SCT, G537+G529+GL108(CF).We had
three 81 class sighting, all 8160, as well as on 9791 with the V, it was
seen on 9792 with XR555 and on Sunday's up SCT, G519+8160(PN)+G530. On the P
& O trains we had 14 CLP sightings, and 8 CLF sightings along with GM's 42 &
43 which were on Thursday's P & O AM/MA6 trains with CLP17. On Wednesday,
MA5 went out with NR4+AN4(AN)+G538. On Thursday there was an incident at
North Geelong where a maintenance painter was painting under the Melbourne
road bridge in a cherry picker when along came the Patrick's (AM3) train and
knocked him off, he was reported to have a broken leg (Lucky man). This
caused a considerable delay on the S/G and meanwhile the down Overland train
was waiting at Manor Loop before it returned to Melbourne to place it
passengers on to busses, I presume? The ten cars of the Overland was later
seen heading West on the back of WP2 steel train. That evening the down MA3
Patrick's train did not run, nor did the up AM3 Patrick's train on Friday,
don't know if this was a result of the accident causing such a delay to the
service? Also on Thursday we had a visit from the ARTC AK track testing
train, it was on the down with 2212 and the three AK cars. On Friday the up
PW4 steel train came in with NR43+NR42+DL44(NR)+DL48(AN).
Regards, Graham Elliott.
