Closure of Newcastle rail stations not technically a closure of whole line, State Government lawyer says
A House of Representatives committee has recommended the completion of the Maldon to Dombarton rail link in New South Wales, with the help of money from a proposed Federal Government fund for ports infrastructure.
The Committee on Transport and Regional Services has released a report which contains of list of projects which would potentially benefit from the $600 million fund.
Committee member and Member for Cunningham, Sharon Bird, says the State Government's upgrade of Port Kembla makes the completion of the rail link more economically viable.
Ms Bird says she is hopeful the committee's recommendations will be implemented, whichever party wins this year's election.
"This is two-and-a-half years of study with a bipartisan support for the recommendations, and so I would be very hopeful that they would look very favourably upon it, and certainly I'll be lobbying my own side of Parliament," she said.
