YESTERDAY'S train collision has sparked further controversy over the State Government's proposed fast rail project. Bendigo's Better Rail Action Group claims the incident highlights the potential for lengthy delays and inconvenience to passengers if there is only a single rail line.
The group is opposed to the government's plans to remove one of the two train tracks between Bendigo and Kyneton as part of the multi-million-dollar fast rail project.
Yesterday, the Bendigo-to-Melbourne rail line was closed for five hours as emergency crews cleared the collision scene. Bendigo BRAG spokesman Laurie Whelan said the recent spate of train incidents highlighted the importance of a double train line system.
