A man has died and a truck driver is in a critical condition after a three-vehicle crash that left a Victorian highway closed overnight.
Police believed a truck carrying multiple cars collided with a ute just after 10pm on Wednesday on the Western Highway.
A second truck is then believed to have crashed into both other vehicles.
The male driver of the ute, who is yet to be identified, died at the scene.
The driver of the first truck has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.
More than eight hours later, the Western Highway between Ararat and Stawell remains closed in both directions and detours have been set up via the Pyrenees Highway and Pomonal Road.
