A TEAM of maintenance workers leapt to safety moments before a passenger train smashed into their truck at Elphinstone yesterday.
Authorities have already promised an investigation into the near-fatal collision, the third train crash in central Victoria in recent weeks.
It is believed the maintenance truck was on the railway track without approval when it was hit from behind by the Melbourne-bound train about 10 am.
