A Newcastle rail union official says the takeover of freight lines in the Hunter Valley by the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) could cost up to 200 jobs in the region.
The Rail Tram and Bus Union has organised a rally at the start of this weekend's Country Labor Conference in Bathurst, to protest at the loss of rail jobs across New South Wales.
A focal point of the protest will be the State Government's rural branch line closures.
