The Belgian government is to inject EUR 30 million in yearly subsidies to encourage more internal road freight traffic onto the national railways sytem.
The move, to relieve Belgium’s already congested road infrastructure, is hoped to substantially increase the current yearly national rail freight traffic of 350,000 containers, estimated to be the equivalent of 35,000 monthly lorry loads.
