Victoria, 3-10 to 8-10-2004
We have had 144 sightings for this week making a total of 3142 sightings for the year to date.
51 of the sightings were on the B/G with ten of them being the diverted 9140/9141 Mildura trains. The biggest lash up's on the B/G were two trains with five locos, Tuesday's 9121 had G514+T387(CF)+T376(GN)+T381(GN)+A7X. And a down grain on Friday had, G5XX+T381(GN)+T363?(WC)+T35X(VR)+TXXX. Another nice lash up was Wednesday's 9127 with X35+X33+A79+A71. On Tuesday there was an up sprinter movement returning from testing on the Ballarat - Ararat line. Also on Tuesday 9140 included two new CFCLA hoppers. Friday saw a new 3 car EMU transfer on the up with T385(WC), the T returned light loco with a van later that day. Rebuilt X, XR554 has been sighted on eight trains, it has not been seen leading as yet, I heard that it rides too rough to be lead loco?
On the S/G we had 30 DL sightings with 12 of them being on the Patrick's trains. We saw six AN sightings, seven EL sightings and three 81 sightings (8120 & 8121). We have seen 14 grain trains on the S/G, one of them included the long time no see V544, it came in behind G519 on Friday arvo. Last week I said it was not regular to see lash ups of over three locos on the S/G well this week we have seen five trains with four locos up front, on Wednesday PM5 came in with NR+NR+DL+NR. Three AM3 up Patrick's trains came in with four locos, Thursday saw NR+DL+8120+NR, Friday was NR+DL+NR+NR and Saturday saw NR+DL+NR+NR, also on Saturday MP9 SCT went out with four G's. Sunday's and Tuesday's PW4 steel trains included some SCT loading and Monday's PM9 SCT did not run.
On Tuesday I observed an event that I have not seen before, on arriving home from work at 1535 I saw PW4 at the up end of the loop waiting for a cross. At 1604 9765 on the down, stopped outside my home at the down end of the loop then a police car pulled up and the bobby went up into the cab for a while then he drove away. I then heard on the scanner the driver requesting a green stick to proceed, in return the Adelaide control said that depended on the result of the meeting with the bobby. The driver said "we both registered zero"? It sounds like the bobby gave them a alcohol or a drug test? how often does this happen, anyone know? At least the police car didn't race down the tracks telling the train to pull over!
Regards, Graham Elliott.
