This mornings Northbound XPT service From Melbourne to Sydney has broken into two travelling near Coolaroo Station just north of Broadmeadows.
The train suffered a break apart between the leading XP power unit and the rest of the passenger train. The XP unit proceeded to Somerton Loop and has been stabled.
The remaining part of the train including passengers reversed back into Broadmeadows where passengers were taken from the stricken train service.
The front of the train remains at Somerton Loop in the northern Melbourne suburb.
Passengers for Sydney will complete their journey by bus.
