RAIL services on the South Coast line will return to normal from 2am Saturday, but passengers are advised that more track work is scheduled for October 12-14.
Buses will replace trains between Dapto and Bomaderry until Saturday morning as part of CityRail's $12 million in maintenance on the South Coast line.
Member for Kiama Gareth Ward said the track work included replacing the timber sleepers with concrete sleepers, installing new rail and ballast and general track maintenance.
"These works help to ensure improved reliability on the line and the installation of concrete sleepers means less maintenance will be needed in the long-term," he said.
"I urge commuters to plan ahead for their journey and allow extra travel time to ensure they reach their destinations on time."
Buses will replace trains between Dapto and Bomaderry with trains between Dapto and Bondi Junction running on an amended timetable.
Between 12.15am and 4am, the track work will extend to Wollongong and buses will also replace those services.
"We ask that customers remain patient during the work phase, as once they are completed they will have a more reliable network to get them to their destination," Mr Ward said.
The South Coast Line track upgrade booklet has more information including bus times for the current works and is available from affected stations.
Rail users can also keep up to date on upcoming track work by subscribing to CityRail's free Track work by Email update service at http://www.cityrail.info/service_updates /.
