Île-de-France Mobilités and RATP have given a €530m contract for the delivery of 44 metro trains to a consortium of Alstom and Bombardier.
The contract includes an option for the delivery of 410 trains and will be shared equally between Alstom and Bombardier.
The first 44 trains will begin operations between 2024 and 2026 on the Paris metro lines 3bis, 7bis and 10. Of the 44 trains, 30 five-car 76m-long trains will be built for line 10, while 14 four-car 60.86m-long trains will be built for 7bis and 3bis lines. Other trains will operate on lines 13, 12, 3, 8 and 7.
Features will include a driver’s cabin with open interior circulation. Additionally, the trains will be equipped with passenger information systems, large bay windows, LED lighting with heating and air-conditioning system, USB sockets and video protection cameras.
The new trains will include 20% recycled materials, making them 98% recoverable when they reach their lifespan. They are expected to use 20% less energy compared to the MF77 trains in service due to 100% electric braking and 100% LED lighting.
Assembly will be completed at Alstom’s site at Valenciennes and Bombardier’s site at Crespin.
Alstom France senior vice-president Jean-Baptiste Eyméoud said: “I am honoured that Île-de-France Mobilités and RATP have chosen to trust us to renew travelling comfort on the historic lines of the Paris metro. Together, we want to turn the region into the world’s showcase for the cutting-edge technologies of the French rail sector.”
Alstom also secured a €194m contract to supply 31 regional trains to the Lombardy Region in Italy.
Last month, Alstom won a €430m contract from the Métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence for the renewal and automation of Marseilles metro in France.
