The state government’s planned study into regional fast rail has been labelled a pre-election stunt by member for Orange Phil Donato.
“There is no firm commitment, all this is going to do is tell us what we already know. It is going to spend millions of dollars of taxpayers’ money on feasibility studies,” he said.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian this week said a study would advise on options on providing fast rail to regional NSW.

However, Mr Donato said it did not go far enough.
“It’s only now at the 11th hour before an election, the government’s been in for eight years, they make this announcement,” he said.
“We need a seamless, fast, efficient, direct rail service from Orange [to Sydney].
“While I welcome the announcement I am very sceptical of it actually being delivered.”
He said an Orange-based petition calling for more trains had attracted about 3000 signatures.
Mr Donato said he planned to table it in Parliament for debate next year.
