Rolling stock manufacturer Alstom has secured a €330m contract with Italian high-speed train operator Italo Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori to supply five additional Pendolino EVO trains.
The new contract requires Alstom to provide maintenance services for 30 years.
The addition of the five trains will bring the Italo Pendolino EVO fleet to a total of 22 trains. It will enable the Italian high-speed train operator to expand its current network and increase operational frequencies.

With the expanded fleet, Italo will also be able to connect north-east Italy with the rest of the country.
Part of Alstom’s Avelia range of high-speed trains, the new Pendolino EVO trains will have the same features and technical specifications as the previous five units ordered by Italo.
The seven-car trains are 187m long and can operate at a maximum speed of 250 km/h. Each unit can accommodate around 480 passengers. The trains are compatible with the latest Interoperability Technical Specifications (TSI 2014) and standards established by the European Union.
All trains have been designed to be environmentally friendly with the front end of the Italo EVO trains, as well as to improve aerodynamics and crash protection. They also feature an optimised distributed traction system to enhance efficiency.
Alstom will engage its Savigliano team to work on the design and manufacturing of the trains, while the Sesto San Giovanni and Bologna sites will be responsible for the traction systems and signalling systems, respectively.
