Hello everyone from the wilds of Central Burma!
Ararat's past is steeped in the history of the railways. Almost 130 years ago, on April 6 1875, people made their way to Ararat in coaches, carriages and on foot for the opening of the new railway.
The first two trains from Melbourne carried the Premier of Victoria, parliamentarians and other dignitaries. The Borough and Shire Councils determined that everyone should have the opportunity to join in the festivities to celebrate the opening of the railway.
