NOISE gauges are being installed on properties along a controversial section of the proposed Inland Rail in southeast Queensland.
But members of a community committee set up to work with the rail developer and disseminate information to the public, claim they were not told of the plan.
The group also said installing meters was premature as the state government was yet to agree to hand over the section of track to the developer, ARTC, for the Inland Rail.
The group also said the state had not yet called for an Environmental Impact Statement.
The ARTC confirmed it was still waiting for a decision from the state Office of the Co-ordinator-General about whether the section of track would be declared a co-ordinated project, requiring the Environmental Impact Statement.
But the ARTC said regardless of no deal with the state, the devices would be installed on about 10 properties at Acacia Ridge, Hillcrest, Boronia Heights, Greenbank, Flagstone and Allenview.
“We have committed to undertaking these studies regardless of the decision made by the Co-ordinator-General,” the ARTC said.
“While we wait for this process to complete, the team is commencing with some of the studies and investigations.
“We are keen to make progress with these comprehensive investigations because they will take approximately 12-18 months to complete, and we are aware that the community is eager to receive this information.”
Site investigations along the rail corridor and on private properties will start this month with investigations to include noise and vibration monitoring as well as cadastral surveys, geotechnical work, air-quality monitoring, and studies into flora and fauna.
This week, ARTC approached residents at Flagstone and St Stephen’s School at Algester and asked permission to install the noise meters, which look like suitcases with microphones.
