Join us on a special celebration to Geelong for the 65th Birthday Celebration of B74. Explore Geelong’s waterfront and shopping precinct or take a coach to Queenscliff with a kit lunch. The tour is set for Saturday 21st July, 2018.
Victorian Blue and Gold Locomotive B74 came to Seymour Railway Heritage Centre in the early 1990s after it was withdrawn from service in 1988.
The B class locomotive was the first diesel-electric locomotive to operate in Victoria. B74 entered service on 15 June 1953 and is one of Victoria’s oldest preserved locomotives.
So kick up your heels and join us in celebrating 65 years of B74 with a day trip to Geelong. Geelong’s beautiful waterfront and shopping precinct is a must, as is a wander down the historic streets. Relax for lunch or coffee in one of Geelong’s many restaurants.
Also available is a coach transfer to the beautiful town of Queenscliff where there is plenty to do over your 3 and a half hours there. You can visit Queenscliff Fort and enjoy the opportunity to tour a 19th Century Coastal Artillery Fort, (operating as an Australian Army Base), with over 150 years of Australia's heritage on display. This Fort is one of Victoria's most important heritage sites and one of the largest and best preserved forts in the country. There is also the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum where you can delve into Queenscliff's fascinating past. The shipwrecks, the rescues, the lifeboat and the Pilots who continue to bring ships safely through the Rip and into Port. You will experience this and more at the Maritime Museum.
As a special, the first 150 bookings only will receive a souvenir B74 bag & booklet.
Passengers will have the choice of travelling in comfortable 100-year-old wooden bodied compartment style carriages or former Spirit of Progress steel compartment carriages. The beautifully restored 110-year-old Yarra Carriage will be on your trip. Enjoy the views from the viewing platform at the end of the train
The famous original 1937 Spirit of Progress Parlour and Dining Carriage will also be apart of your time. Enjoy a wine or beer from our licensed bar whilst watching the beautiful countryside or dine in the dining carriage with morning tea and dinner on offer.
