Westermo has acquired a 100% stake in Neratec Solutions, a Swiss technology company that manufactures WLAN products with a focus on reliable wireless communication solutions for the train and trackside sector.
The Beijer Group, which owns Westermo, develops and sells operator terminals that control, monitor and check processes automatically, often in exposed environments.
Westermo CEO Jenny Sjödahl said: “The acquisition of Neratec will strengthen Westermo’s offer to the rail industry to include a strong wireless portfolio that we can channel via our worldwide sales network.
“Neratec in Switzerland will be our technology centre for industrial WLAN products within Westermo.”
The Beijer Group said that the acquisition of Neratec Solutions will have limited impact on Beijer’s earnings in 2019.
Neratec Solutions managing director Jussi Harju said: “We are excited to join Westermo and BEIJER GROUP. Our complementary technologies will create a very strong offering to the industry and Westermo’s worldwide sales organisation will ensure global market access.”
Based in Bubikon, Switzerland, Neratec has 25 employees and showed sales of approximately $6.5m last year.
Beijer Group president and CEO Per Samuelsson said: “I am pleased that we today announce this first complementary acquisition to the business entity Westermo.
“Since the new strategy put in place 2016, we have proven our ability with high profitable organic growth and now we start to add on with acquisitions.”
The Swedish company’s subsidiary, which has a strong product portfolio in industrial and railway markets, operates a global sales network in Europe, the Americas, Asia and Australia.
Neratec will be part of the Beijer Group from the third quarter of this year.
In September, Westermo Teleindustri was renamed Westermo Network Technologies.
The company’s name was changed to better reflect its focus on providing robust, secure and easy-to-use network technologies for mission-critical systems for use in the transport, infrastructure, utility, processing and marine industries.
