A vintage heritage train ride is sure to be a great family fun day out. Travelling from Seymour to Bendigo the tour takes travellers to the Annual Bendigo Easter Festival via the Echuca freight only tracks. Picking up at Murchison East, Nagambie, Echuca, Rochester and Elmore stations.
The Bendigo Easter Festival is the longest running community cultural festival in Australia. Bendigo’s beautiful Rosalind Park, along with surrounding streets, transform into vibrant and colourful space filled with activities, rides, music, food, performances and much more.
Another option for the day is a trip to Echuca. The Port of Echuca Discovery Centre is a must. It will transport you back to the hustle and bustle of the 1860’s when Echuca was Australia’s largest inland port.
Explore the story of Australia’s pioneering spirit and learn how Australia’s inland river system connected a fledgling colony to its growing cities and the outside world.
Travel on one of the many paddle steamers. The port is home to the largest paddle steamer collection in the world, which includes the world's oldest operating wooden hulled paddle steamer.
Organised by the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre for Easter Saturday, 31st March, your train will comprise the original Spirit of Progress sitting carriages, 48-seat dining and the renowned round ended parlour lounge together with 100-year-old red wooden compartment style carriages.
The magnificent 112-year-old Yarra Carriage will also be on your train, enjoy the viewing platform as you watch the countryside on this beautifully restored century old carriage.
A special on-board dining experience provided by local Seymour caterers Taste on Track will take you back to the early days. Enjoy morning tea and/or a 3-course dinner in the original Spirit of Progress Dining Carriage. The train will also have a licensed bar and light refreshments available for purchase.
